HelioVital – About sunlight

Sunlight is an essential part of all life

The amount of sunlight per day depends on the extent of daytime cloud coverage, the season and position on earth. Some places receive more than 4,000 hours per year of sunlight, others only 2,000. Ordinarily, sunlight is broken down into three major components: Ultraviolet light (UV A/B) with wavelength shorter than 400 nanometer(nm), visible light between 400 and 780 nm and infrared (heat-) radiation longer than 780 nm.

UV Radiation

Although ultraviolet light constitutes only a smaller part proportion of the total radiation, this component is extremely important.

UV radiation arriving on the earth’s surface is further divided into shorter-wave UV-B and longer-wave UV-A. Some UV-A/B components provide a variety of light effects and nutrients. For example, they induce the production of vitamin D, trigger NO synthesis and regulate numerous biological processes in the body. However, other UV-A/B components are of a harmful nature and are responsible for skin cancer, sunburn and premature skin ageing.

To avoid these the HelioVital sun filter technology filters out these harmful rays in an elective way – in order you may get only the BEST of sun.

Colours and mood

Wavelengths found between 400 and 780 nm are known as the visible spectrum of light to the human eye.

We recognize visible light in form of colours, blue – green – yellow – red, depending to their wavelength. All colours have psychological effects on human beings. Visible light can improve the human mood and prevent some diseases, such as depression.

HelioVital filters let a high grade of visible light pass through. Most of our filters are slightly tinted in order to improve the positive light mood behind the filter.

IR = Thermal radiation

Wavelengths between 780 nm and 1 mm, are called infrared radiation. Longer wavelengths, undetectable to the human eye, are instead felt as warmth.

On the one hand, warmth coming from the sun is welcome, but on the downside too much heat can be unpleasant. HelioVital filters can be equipped with or without heat reflection layers. Our top sellers are equipped with these layers, offering its users the benefit of 70% heat reflection rate, resulting in pleasant and cool sun protection.

HelioVital users benefit from cooler sunbathing temperatures, reduced perspiration and body dehydration.
